Then how do you explain a chain of dollar stores closing? It's pretty bad when people can't afford to shop at a dollar store or liquidation outlet.

Dollar Stores closing its doors in Washington and Oregon

The Dollar Stores in Washington and Oregon are scheduled to close within the next 10 weeks because their parent company is going out of business.

Liquidation Outlet, based in Puyallup, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection March 25. In the filing, it said it had 2 secured creditors due $1 million and up to 200 unsecured creditors, mostly landlords, suppliers and utilities, owed $6.4 million. Its biggest assets listed were the 38 stores and one warehouse valued at an estimated $12.5 million.

Store employees heard Friday about the liquidation, which has already begun.

Owners Gary and Arlene Woodring couldn't be reached for comment.

The going out of business sale is being managed by Hilco Merchant Resources of Illinois.

The stores sold groceries, fresh produce, housewares, gadgets, stationery, toys and seasonal merchandise, according to Hilco.

Dollar Stores in the Puget Sound region include four in Tacoma; two apiece in Seattle, Kent and Bremerton; and one each in Bellingham, Federal Way, Lacey, Lakewood, Marysville, Olympia, Port Angeles, Puyallup, Renton, and Tumwater.

The economy is improving so fast that people now have so much money, they no longer have to shop at the Dollar Stores.

If only that were the case.

Could it be that people in those areas are not dollar store people? You know what I mean. Like the kind that roll up their nose at the mere mention of a dollar store, and would never deign to step foot in a thrift store.

I got me some good deals I thought, at the dollar store today.

Seems like the dollar stores would do a lot of research before they opened a store, to avoid that sort of thing. I know that Dollar General and Family Dollar do.

I've been to some of that area in the article. Puyallup has stores that range from higher cost all the way down to Goodwill. Tacoma and Olympia right next to each other have their poorer parts of town. Not so sure about Seattle. Kent and Renton are both higher class, ritzy homes. I'm not sure about the other cities, but I'm sure just like all cities they've got people who have lower incomes. Also, that area of the country has one of the largest tent cities of the new homeless. So I'm surprised that those stores are going under.

Poor management? Not that I think the economy is improving one iota. I think we are more or less in the eye of the storm.

I get David Wilkerson's morning devotion, and subscribe to Time Square Church pulpit series. David, Carter Conlon, and the other pastors keep talking about the storm that is still coming. If they think things are going to get a lot worse, you better get yourself as ready as you can.

Paul is convinced that "they" are propping everything up until bo is elected for a second term. Then he thinks "they" are goin to push for a civil war in this country. Seems like "they" are moving things around, preparing for it. Nothing official to back this up just his opinion after constantly watching the news.

There's no way Obama is going to be elected to a second term. He might declare martial law and suspend the elections, though.

They've been pushing for a civil war in this country. That's the whole plan with all this devisiveness - black vs white, hispanic vs white, democrat vs republican, all the religions against each other, and on and on. They're hoping that one or more of those divisions will get so bad they'll start fighting.

Yes, I think there is going to be rioting and anarchy and persecution. I don't think there is any way to stop it. Frankly, I'm surprised it has held off this long. One of the main reasons I left MS in 83 was because of the racial tension. It didn't seem a safe place to be.

That's the truth, and I think even his own people are starting to see it. Now that that one guy is saying that he was promised a job if he dropped out of the race (he was that guy who waited til the last minute on the health care thing), they're whispering about impeachment again. I don't think that would ever happen, though, not with the bunch we have in office now.

It might not happen now, but it might after November elections, IF they take place.

To tell the truth, I'm sick of the whole bunch in Washington, Democrats AND Republicans. We sorely need a viable third party who will uphold the Constitution, repeal any laws and practices that go against it, and severely punish anyone who put illegal laws and practices in place in the first place. We need someone who will put the 'Servant' back into public servant. They are not our bosses, WE are THEIR bosses!

Gayle, until the powers behind the politicians are changed, a new party isn't going to improve matters. JMHO

The new party should have no ties to whoever is behind the current politicians. Also, we need to get out of the UN and get the UN out of the USA. We've gotten entirely too entangled in the affairs of the rest of the world.

I agree that is what we need, but unfortunately, the majority of our country are a bunch of bobos who are just looking for who can give them the best deal and the biggest handout, so they would never in a million years vote for someone like that. At least not enough of them to actually put the person in office.

So, as a nation, we're getting what we deserve. If we won't vote in someone who will uphold the Constitution and end (*gasp*) welfare, things will just keep going the way they're going.
