Its that time of year again. Lets share what good things we are putting in our pantrys. Henrys dads person gave me strawberries so I'm goin to make jam. She also gave me 3 gallon bags of huge blackberries from her freezer. Methinks that will be jam too. I decided that my other title to this thread was confusing to some so I changed it. Same content just a new name.

I dehydrated a tray of clover blossoms last night. They really kept their color good! I ended up with close to a quart of them.
If it doesn't rain tomorrow, I plan on picking some strawberries - about 6 or 7 flats. I want to dry part of them, make jam from part, and eat the rest.

I'm waiting for the incubator to empty and then I'm thinking of trying to dry some wet packed carrots. I got several #10 cans for $1 each and I'll use them better if they are dehydrated.

I'm thinking about getting more potatoes since they will probably be on sale for this weekend of cooking out. I want to dehydrate some mashed potatoes. The store bought one's have sulfites in them that I can't eat. I'm also picking raspberries as they ripen.

I didn't end up going after the strawberries today. I only slept 5 hours and it was hot, so I said to heck with it and just ran my errands and came home to do laundry.

Just put some lemon balm and catnip in the dehydrator. My 'putting up' will be very limited this year, that's for sure!

Willa, That's a great price! I've never seen them for less than $3. I don't know if you have a dehydrator, but, if you do, you can dehydrate them, too. They're one of my favorites dried.

Hmmm, I wonder if that means their in season. I'll check our store next time I go and see if they are cheaper (and riper) than usual. I do love me some dried pineapple!

Willa, here's a tutorial on choosing and cutting up a pineapple~ gourmetfood.about.com/od/cookingtechniques/ss/cutpineapple.htmI cut mine into dices because I find them more useful in recipes and just as delicious to eat. Here is a tutorial on dehydrating the pineapple~ www.hazelmanfarms.com/food_dehydration/pineapple/If you want, you can dip the pineapple in heavy syrup or plain dry sugar before you dry it, but it isn't necessary. BTW, if you find that your pineapple isn't quite ripe, it will ripen on the counter. I've had them take as long as a week to get good and ripe.
