I'm not sure what ours is. We have city water and it doesn't leave any rust, lime, or calcium on stuff, so I'm thinking it's soft.

Ours has tons of iron! The softener takes out some of it, but still leaves a lot.

I forgot to tell y'all, I finally made Minute Rice that wasn't sticky.
Normally you add the rice to the boiling water and then take it off of the heat and cover it. Well I wasn't paying attention and ended up adding the rice to the water before I put it on the stove. Once it came to a boil, I took it off of the heat and covered it and let it sit for 5 minutes and it wasn't sticky.

I might try making the homemade dehydrated rice that way the next time I make it.

To use the dehydrated rice (which is cooked rice that has been dehydrated), I measure the rice I want, put it in a bowl, then stir in an equal amount of boiling water. Cover for about 10 minutes (I just set a plate on top of the bowl) or until the water is absorbed.
Valerie, why are you afraid to use it?

I'm afraid it's gonna have a weird texture, like when you put rice in chicken soup and it kind of blows up. I guess I should try a little bit first and see what it does.

It does have kind of a weird texture, but not as bad as rice in soup. It doesn't split and curl like that.
