I didn't watch the tutorial, Willa, but a ripe pineapple will smell good. You will be one of those crazy ladies sniffing the produce! Cut some parsley and some basil for the dehydrator today.

Valerie, the tutorials weren't videos. I try to find explanations with pictures whenever I can, so people with dial-up can see them easier. When I had dial-up, it was frustrating trying to get a video to load and it slowed down the computer so much that it wasn't usually worth the trouble. I have dsl now, but videos still slow down my machine, just not as long.
I was looking at my parsley today, comparing the plants that I cut some from with the ones I haven't cut. The ones I used have more leaves than the ones I didn't. I think I'm going to cut all of them and dry it, too. For some reason, it didn't occur to me to dehydrate it, even though I buy it dried all the time. I'm glad you mentioned drying it!

I've been picking raspberries in the mornings while it's cool enough to have long sleeves on. So far I've got a little over 1 qt bag full in the freezer.

They use blackberry leaves in tea, right? I have all these wild blackberries at the edge of my yard. I ought to save some leaves if they'll be good. Does anybody know which leaves are the best? New growth or old growth, or if wild ones are ok?

Cherries are on sale here, 2.48 a pound. Probably just as cheap as buying them already canned. I love cherries. I'm going to buy a few pounds, anyway Freeze and dehydrate will be the way I go. Dragged out the canning jars and canner, will be trying my hand at putting up baked beans...never done it before. Isn't quite strawberry picking time here, but I printed out several jam recipes. The local PYO should be opening in the next week or so. Blackberry leaves.....wow....lots of wild blackberries growing around here. I will definately be dehydrating some!

Kroger had cherries for $2.48 a couple of weeks ago. I just had enough money to buy some or enough for gas to get there, so I didn't get any. Probably just as well. I'd have made cherry bounce out of them anyway, and I don't even drink. I've made it the last two years and still have all of it. It's delicious, but I have zero alcohol tolerance.
I dried some parsley and radish leaves a couple of days ago. I was going to dry some oregano, lemon balm, sage, feverfew, lemon thyme, and mint today, but it's raining and I'm too ornery to pick it in the rain. It'll still be there when the rain stops. I'll get it then.

Henrys dad brought me a small wash tubof blue lake green beans. We just got thru eating our way thru a huge pot I cooked so I'm goin to can these. The second box of peaches isnt as sweet as the first so I'm goin to make pie filling out of them. Got to stop at the store after church and pick up some peach jello. A lot of years ago a mennonite lady was listening when I was griping about having peaches not real sweet and tasty. She said to put a couple of tablespoons of jello powder in the pie filling and it would be better. She was so right. I'm goin to wait for the Missouri peaches to get ripe.

This week I ... - canned all those blackberries
- dehydrated cranberries that I wanted out of the freezer
- dehydrated lemon balm, mint, stevia, catnip & a couple small heads of cabbage, and some summer squash. I tried to dry some basil, but it only got halfway before we needed to leave. I'm hoping to do it the rest of the way in the oven here.

I have some tinctures tincturing (feverfew, ginger and dandelion). I need to see if I can get someone to pick up chickweed for me at the co-op (I have to find out if they have it first). If I can get that I'm going to make a chickweed and comfrey ointment.

Michelle, don't you have chickweed growing wild where you live?

Dried some radish leaves yesterday to have on hand for stings. Putting some bell peppers in the dehydrator after supper.
Oh yeah, my mom is going to give me hers! She says, "I can't afford to buy that stuff to put in it." Lord only knows what she's talking about, but she doesn't listen to me. But I'll surely take it off her hands!

Yeah! When I bought mine, she wanted one too. I think she had visions of making banana chips and dried fruit like in the stores. Once she realized banana chips are not dried and that dried fruit comes from fresh fruit and requires work, she never used it. I tried to convince her to dry what she had, but she doesn't see the point -- she'll just run to the store and get more if she needs it. Whatever.
It will be nice to have two, so if I have herbs in one I can put veggies in the other.
