Mine isn't even planted yet! Dan got it all plowed and tilled yesterday, but it was too late to start planting. If it's nice tomorrow, I'll plant it then. I have my plants and seeds ready to go.

My 3 pot garden is doin fine. We put cucumbers in a pot and they have run up a metal trellis and two tomato stakes. There are 7 or 8 cukes about 6" long. Ihave my eye on one for salad tomorrow. The yellow squash has 5 or 6 squash on it but too small. The cherry tomato is covered with little green tomatoes. Cant wait for them to get ready to eat. Maybe I'll get to eat some this summer. Last summer Hailey-girl cleaned the bush every time she came over. That girl has loved tomatoes since before she had teeth to chew them up. If you eat out with her and get a salad and dont watch out you'll lose all your maters:)

Still no maters setting on the big boys. I'm about ready to jerk them all out of the pots and plant something else. The romas are going gang busters and the peppers are doing great. Need to hurry and trellis the squash and melons because as soon as they are within duck reach they get shredded. Lots of blooms on them. The chewing cane is starting to come up.
We got about 1/2 inch of rain today. Enough to up the humidity. I sure hope its enough to green my neighbors' pasture. They just mowed it last week and that poor donkey has been looking like she can't find much to eat. It was looking nice and green before he mowed it.
Wish I had a field and brush mower. I needs it real badly.

My little porch bucket garden is doing good. The lettuce, spinach, radishes, and sugar snap peas are done and gone now. Picked 2 bell peppers and an eggplant this week, and 2 bowls of cherry/grape tomatoes actually made it into the house! I'm with Hailey -- let's just stand there and eat 'em off the vine! I told my neighbor lady I would bring her some, though, so I have restrained myself all week! I'll take her most of what I picked today, tomorrow.
I have 2 little yellow squash, still too small to eat, and I cut a cucumber today and brought it in. There's one more that need another day or so. How come my cucumbers never get real dark green like store cukes, though?
Gave the lemon balm and catnip a haircut today and have the cuttings drying now.

This will be the first year that I didn't plant a couple of cherry tomatoes for the kids to snack on. Maybe I should.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the big tomatoes. There's about a dozen and a half on the one bush, just starting to turn color just a little bit. It's getting pretty hot here now, though, so what's on there is probably all there will be. Once it gets too hot they stop blooming.
Oh yeah, forgot the pole beans, too. There are probably 3 or 4 good handfuls ready to pick in my one bucket. The other bucket is just starting to bloom.
Tomorrow, I'll be planting 2 more cukes in the bucket the peas were in, and another squash in the bucket the spinach was in. I might go ahead and plant a squash in the bucket the lettuce was in, even though it still has the cilantro in it. I'm letting it go to seed (coriander) so I can get them. I've decided I like flat leaf parsley in recipes better than cilantro. The cilantro tastes kind of soapy to me for some reason.

Just before dark, I walked up to the garden to see if everything was ok. I expected to see wilted tomatoes and peppers, since we just planted them yesterday. To my surprise, nothing was wilted! They all looked perky. Maybe that garden won't be as bad as I think it will be.
I worked some compost into the new bed in the yard. It looks good, but I haven't planted anything in it yet. I spent a big part of my day scrubbing rust and mud off and greasing the garden tools. Dan sharpened everything for me, so it's all ready to go.
If it's nice tomorrow, I am thinking about making a small fence around the bed in the yard, to keep the dogs out. I don't think they'd go to the trouble of jumping a fence, even a short one, if they can just walk around it.
Also, I cut up an old plastic trash can. I intend to use it to repair a broken wheelbarrow. Somebody threw firewood in it and broke the bottom (it's plastic), so I cut the top and bottom off the trash can and will use the center piece to fix the wheelbarrow. I figure on gluing a piece to the bottom of the wheelbarrow and another inside, so it will be strong. I was going to use epoxy, but I'm going to check and see if there might be something better.
Belinda found the handles and wheel from an old wheelbarrow (the one I used the top to make a bed from). When I get done fixing the other one, I want to make a flatbed wheelbarrow out of the hardware and some wood. That might be good for bringing firewood and hay down from the barn - at least it would be easier than carrying it. I think the kids will like it.

Timmy got my garden tilled today, so I'll be working on it bright and early tomorrow morning. Just hope my back holds up, it's been aching something terrible lately. I'm just going to work on getting seeds in first as my bedding plants I started from seed are just too tiny yet to transplant.

Walked up to the garden on the hill tonight and it's coming along. Some of the beans have just come up, the tomatoes are doing fine, and the radishes are up. I planted those to deter squash vine borers. The squash and cukes are not up yet.
The little patch in the yard is growing. Some of the pattypans are up as are most of the cukes. The tomatoes are looking good, although they're still pretty little.
I need to replant the beets in the wheelbarrow. Pal dug up most of the tiny seedlings. I also need to pull out some of the kohlrabi, the ones that are blooming. I guess they're not supposed to do that. The ones that didn't are thickening near the base, but not the flowering ones. The lettuce still isn't up, even though Pal can no longer get to it. I can't imagine that all of my seeds are bad - some of them are old, but some are brand new. I don't know why they're not growing.
Everything else is doing fine. If I think about it tomorrow, I'll take some pictures of the SFG beds, so you can see how much they've grown.

We ate our first big tomato the other day, and it was sooo good. I'm gonna try starting some seeds this month, hoping we can get some fall tomatoes too. I think we should be able to squeeze some in; we're not supposed to get frost til the end of November.
The watermelon and cantaloupe are setting fruit now! I'm very excited about that. If I ever get to harvest even one cantaloupe, I will feel that I have succeeded as a gardener. Everything else is just growing along.

I went out to take pictures of the SFG this morning and had a little snack of sugar snaps, raspberries, and blueberries. It won't be long till I'm overrun with berries. Here are the pictures I took. The first 3 I made~ Pal's bed. The lettuce and fennel still aren't up. One of the temporary beds (the other one is just like it) I realize you can't tell much about it. It's all onion sets and they just started to sprout. I have a piece of fence over it to keep Pal out~

Poor Pal, banished from the garden. ;D
Your beds look really nice, Gayle. So what are your thoughts so far on SFG?
