Even if they didn't stand on it, they'd probably eat it. I'm still going to try it for the chickens. I like the hurdle idea. I could make those and move them around so the chickens could have fresh grass.

Gayle, for chickens, you might consider a wire top, too. My chickens don't really fly over things (that's why the electric fence works for most of them) but if something is solid, they all feel the need to jump up on it. Even if it's 4' high.
