Someone posted this on a sustainability board through facebook and I wanted to share it here. Several years ago, I went through "old" recipes from my Grandmother, digitized them, and sent them to all the Grand kids. At the very back of her recipe file were "these" handwritten notes: Sweet milk will remove ink stains. Kerosene will remove grass stains. Alcohol will remove indelible pencil. In winter, put a teaspoon of salt in starch to prevent clothes from freezing. Lemon juice mixed with salt will remove rust. One TBL of vinegar added to the frying fat will keep doughnuts from soaking up grease. Ammonia & Turpentine will take paint out of clothing. To whiten shirts when they become yellow, soak them in 2 TBL Sodium Sulfite and 1/2 Cup white vinegar per gallon of water. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice to rice when cooking - it will keep grains apart. NOTE: My Grandmother passed away 30+ years ago. I'm gonna guess the comments above date back 50 or so years +/-.

Thank you! I'm printing this in case I need it. I don't trust my memory (and never have)

I was really intrigued by the salt added to starch to keep clothes from freezing. (Not that it happens much here, lol.)

That was the one that caught my attention, too.
