I lost my head and made a double batch of this today. It was the first time I've made it, so I didn't even know if it would be good. I think I'll double it everytime I make it! This recipe makes a little over a pint, so don't say I didn't warn you.
Restaurant-Style Sweet & Sour Sauce
1 cup canned pineapple juice 1/3 cup rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar 1-2 tablespoons soy sauce 3/4 cup granulated sugar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 2 tablespoons water 2-4 drops red food coloring (optional, but recommended)
Add pineapple juice, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and sugar to a sauce pan and whisk together. Set over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
While you're waiting for the sauce to boil, mix together cornstarch and water to make a slurry.
Once the sauce is boiling , stir in the cornstarch slurry and continue cooking until thickened. Remove from heat.
Stir in food coloring, if using. Do not add it before this or it will lose some of it's vibrancy and you'll end up needing more.
Let cool at room temperature. Store in refrigerator.
