Fried Green Tomatoes contributed by gayla
1 cup cornmeal 2 green tomatoes 3 tsp. sugar 4-5 tbsp. shortening salt and pepper to taste
Slice tomatoes 1/4" thick and sprinkle with salt, pepper and sugar. Roll in cornmeal and brown in a skillet with 1/4" shortening over medium heat. Brown on both sides. Drain on paper towel.
If you want to fry okra, yellow or zucchini squash, repeat the above process, leaving out the sugar.
