Cookie Dough Bites
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened 3/4 cup granulated sugar 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 rounded tablespoon of shortening (do not use butter or margarine because of the moisture they contain)
In mixing bowl, blend butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until creamy. Stir in flour and salt to make a firm dough that is not sticky. If mixture is too sticky, add more flour, a tablespoon at a time, until it is no longer sticky and can be rolled into balls.
Using about 1/4 t. of dough, roll into balls about the size of a marble and place on waxed paper lined cookie sheets. When all dough has been rolled into balls, melt chocolate chips with shortening. Dip balls into melted chocolate, tapping off any excess, and place back on waxed paper. If chocolate gets too cool to dip centers, reheat for a minute.
Once all balls are dipped, place in refrigerator for about 10 minutes to harden chocolate.
I don't know how many this makes, but it will make enough balls to fill 2 large cookie sheets. Recipe can be halved.
These can be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature, whichever you prefer.
