This one happened on Tuesday. I didn't hear anything about it until today. Did you? Alaska pipeline still shut, awaiting regulator OKThe Trans-Alaska Pipeline remained shut for a fourth day Friday as it awaited word from federal regulators that it's all right to begin operations again, the pipeline operator said. The 800-mile oil pipeline, owned by BP and other oil majors, has been shut since Tuesday, when a power outage at a pumping station caused a pipeline valve to open, spilling thousands of barrels of oil. We watched that last night and then I forgot about it. Do you think its a coincidence. When things that similar happen so close together it makes me wonder.

It makes me wonder how many happen that we don't hear about. I don't think the Arabs, Russians, or the South Americans tell us everytime one of their 'oil companies' (aka their government) has an accident, do you?

I just got off the phone with my sister. She said she thinks it's eco-terrorists because the explosion in the Gulf happened less than a month after Obama announced plans to allow offshore drilling.
My first thought, when I heard about the explosion, was middle-eastern, Russian, or South American terrorists. Seems to me, if a terrorist group did it, they'd claim responsibility, like they usually do, and none have, as far as I know.

Here is some interesting stats on oil spills. It says it is incomplete and there is a link to major spills at the bottom before the references. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oil_spillsCheck the stats for the Gulf War spill, it was January of 1991.

What struck me was how few oil rig explosions there have been. I could only find 4. Most spills have been from ships.

Said it only spilled into an outside containment area, so doesn't sound that bad. I do know that pipeline cannot be kept shut down long or it will not start back. They have to keep the oil moving or it freezes. My brother worked on the pipeline some years ago.

They're still running the line, but only at 8% capacity.
The article said there were thousands of gallons of oil spilled, but the tv said it was 5,000 and they'd already cleaned up 1,000 of it.
