My Grandson is the cook in his family and on Fathers day he made this salad. It is very good.
Salad 1 head of cabbage 4 green onions 1 package chicken flavor ramen noodles soup 2 tsp sesame seeds, Wall mart has these in spice area. 1/2 cup slivered almonds
Dressing Seasoning packet from soup mix 3 Tablespoons red wine vinegar 2 Tablespoons sugar 1/2 cup olive oil 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Make dressing and refrigerate for a few hours. Toast almonds and sesame seeds and set aside. Chop cabbage, shred thin and green onions. Break up noodles from soup, Put everything [ Except dressing] in a bowl and refrigerate. Toss in dressing before serving. You can make all this ahead of time, and then put together at dinner. Irene

Sounds good. Bet it would be even better with some diced, cooked chicken.

That sounds like tomorrow's lunch to me. That's my test venue for new recipes. Thanks for posting it, Irene.

That sounds really good. Better put cabbage and ramen noodles on my next grocery list.

I made this today, but I didn't make it early enough to have it for lunch. I'll serve it with supper instead. I tasted the dressing and it's yummy!

Good, I was wondering how it came out.

Some of us liked it, some didn't. The ones that didn't, didn't like the noodles. One of the kids said it would be better with chow mein noodles.
I thought it needed a little something, so I stirred in a little soy sauce. That's what it needed, but I should have added a little more than I did.

I'm copying Irene's Ramen Noodle salad...sounds good. Here is my Ramen Noodle salad...I made adjustments for my taste buds.
RAMEN NOODLE SALAD
1 pkg. broccoli coleslaw mix (Manns?) 1 pkg. Ramen noodles, broken into smaller pieces...I pull out the flavor pkt. and then pound noodles in the pkg. with meat mallet 1 bunch green onions, chopped (opt) 1 C. unsalted peanuts (opt)--I don't use 1 C. sunflower seeds (opt)---I don't use Dressing--double or triple these amounts of sugar, oil, vinegar
1/2 C. white sugar 1/4 C. vegetable oil 1/3 C. cider vinegar 1 pkg. creamy chicken flavor seasoning pkt. from the Ramen noodle package (creamy chicken has less sodium)
(Now that I've re-read that, having less sodium in the Ramen Noodle package and a lot of sugar in the dressing doesn't make much sense, does it? But it really tastes good...must be all that sugar! Perhaps you can make adjustments too.)

Its been a while since I made it but I remembered that we put sesame seeds and a dab of sesame oil in it. Soy sauce would be good too. Nappy, I used the broccoli slaw from the store too. Yummy stuff.

Could you use broccoli from the garden? If yes, how would you prepare it?

I think they just take the stalks and grate them to make them kind of like shredded cabbage. Not the real tough part, just the part you would eat anyway.

You cut the tops too. Just into little pieces. I have to use fresh over here because nobody has the pkg'd stuff. Most of the time I mix it with a little finely shaved cabbage too.

Well, that sounds easy enough! We don't have it here, so I never saw it. I didn't know if it was all broccoli or if it was mixed with other things.
I'll give it a try when the broccoli is ready. If we like it, it's going to be tough to choose between making that or broccoli cheese soup. That's what I usually do with the stalks.
