Gayle have the store order you the half gallon jars.
I need to get an order in for feed corn. I'm thinking about 60-70 bags. Stuff is already sky high.

Kim, I heard about a store that has really cheap canning jars ($6.50 a dozen) I know they have wide-mouth pints (really hard to find around here) so they might have half gallons in stock. If not, I know they'll order them for me. It's the same place I buy seeds so they know me. I just never thought to look at jars there. My friend had to tell me.

Pints are what I've been buying. I still need more. I'm loving the wide mouth ones. I never saw them before this year. I'd like to get 3 or 4 dozen more.

I have meat in the freezer, now with what I got to day, we will make it. for a couple of years I think. at least. bad high and going higher. every thing. really high. watch the flour prices girls, and grab yo uanother 50 pounds or so, same with sugar, yo u can always use it for bread, and making noodles and such. I got about 75 pounds of butter i nthe freezer. I need to get it canned up. will do that after butchering time. I am going to get abotu 150 pounds of cheap white rice, if i can. I make my dog food all winter, and use rice in it. I will start canning meat tomorrow. I am also going to make the monkey butter. going to be as busy as I can get, here sooon.

I was considering getting some freeze dried cheese till I did some research. Going by Honeyville's claim "That means that each can of Freeze Dried Cheddar Cheese is the equivalent of about 10 pounds of fresh cheddar cheese." I was thinking the price wasn't too bad. Then I ran some figures using info from After doing the calculations, I discovered that the can is equivalent to 4.28# of fresh cheese. That makes a HUGE difference in the price. I think I will pass. Their serving is 50 calories which is less than 1/2 ounce of fresh cheese. So 137 servings per can / 2 servings per ounce/ 16 ounces/pound = 4.28#

I'm still trying to replace things we lost in the tornado. It's weird, the things we lost - vanilla, bacon bits, soy sauce, worcestershire, minced garlic, flavoring extracts, mustard, horseradish, things like that. We didn't lose a lot of the important stuff, just the little, expensive things that give us so much variety. I try to buy a few items every week. It's coming along.

Aldi's has red potatoes 99cents for 5#, so I grabbed two bags. That's 10# for less than $2. When we went to the meat market the 10# bags of ground beef were up to $20.95. That's over $2 a pound. Told Mike we better hope all of our beans grow this summer.

Susan, that's actually a good price for hamburger. It's $3.49 a pound here. It goes on sale for $2.99. I will buy it then, but not as much as I'd like to buy.

Salvage store reopened in new location. Stocked up on #10 cans of fruits and veggies, lots of juice, 6# navy beans, 12# lard for the dog bread, several bags of chocolate mint baking chips, peanut butter and a few other odds and ends. Went by WM and got fresh stuff, tp, etc and 5 more totes to pack stuff in. Forgot to buy crackers so reckon I better grind some wheat and get some baking done.
