OK, I don't use bleach in any of my laundry. Mike nor I can handle it not rinsing out of the clothes. I do use a color safe bleach. I used Vivid for a long time until I suddenly can't find it. I refuse to pay $9 for a bottle of Clorox color safe bleach. >:(I looked at the ingredients of the last bottle before it went in the trash and it's hydrogen peroxide. They add in something to thicken it,color it, perfume it and charge a fortune. So I'm trying to think of what I could add to hydrogen peroxide to get the same affect. Or is there something you ladies use to help get stains out of your clothes.

Oxyclean is hydrogen peroxide and washing soda.

Borax is supposed to work sort of like a bleach.

I used Oxyclean years ago when it first came out and it ate my towels. Seriously, the towels were fine and after a few washes they looked like they were 10 years old. I do use borax in the wash. We have very hard water plus with all the animals it makes the wash smell better. The color safe bleach I sometimes pour right on a spot to make sure it comes out. I did think of something. I might try adding some hydrogen peroxide to some laundry detergent (ALL free clear) to use for spot treating. Susan

Susan, you can make a paste of baking soda and peroxide to use for spot treating. Also, if you need to do a whole load, half a bottle of peroxide and half a box of baking soda works well.

I go to the paint department and get TSP powder...1/8 c. per washerload, along with detergent. Works WAY better than bleach and gets greasy stuff out too. I had several work sheets I thought I was going to have to replace, on account of staining from massage gel...a couple washes with TSP and they are MUCH better!!!

I'm gonna try this TSP on some of Becky's shirts. She washed white shirts with Brandon's work clothes and they picked up greasy stains in the washer (which she swears came from my washer, but they don't get on my clothes!) They also picked up that grungy, washed-with-darks, look.

Valerie, if the shirts are white, you can use bleach with the TSP. That's what I've been doing and it has made a much bigger difference than either one alone.

I did. The cotton one came out looking great! The other one is synthetic and she got grill rack grease on it. It might take a few more washings.

I discovered a while back that a paste of dish washing detergent and baking soda rubbed into a grease spot on cotton will take it out fairly well if the stain has not set. Dish detergent is made to cut grease when you wash dishes with it and I've always put baking soda in a load of Mike's mechanic clothes to help get the grease out.
