I told Peggy I'd post this here. I don't remember the other one and I'm too tired to get up and get it, so I'll post it later. 1 8-oz pkg cream cheese, softened 1 Cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke 1/4 tsp. garlic salt Something for the outside (chopped nuts, minced fresh parsley, etc.) Mix all ingredients well, form into a ball, and roll in nuts, parsley, or whatever you have. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for a couple hours. I used the curly leaf parsley because it's mild and because Becky doesn't like cheese with nuts. I think pecans would be good.

This sounds good, Val. I usually make a couple of these for gatherings, but this year my DIL is making them. Yes, I did request each family bring something for Christmas.

Smart, Mary! We used to have a family shindig every year on New Years Eve (and then it got moved to Christmas Eve) and my aunt used to bring cheese balls. My dad would just park next to the plate for the first 20 minutes or so!

My mom had a big party on Thanksgiving AND Christmas for the whole family for years. Her brothers and their families, dad's sister and her family and all of us with our respective significant others and children. She always did EVERYTHING! She was too exhausted by the time everyone got there that she couldn't enjoy herself and looked forward to everyone leaving. When I got to the age where it was just too much to do all by myself, I started asking my kids to please bring something. I don't tell them what to bring (unless they ask) or how to prepare it, but they usually tell me in advance so we don't have duplicates. It helps me out and it doesn't kill them to make a dish.

I'd have mine bring a dish if I could get them to move out.
