I think I've found a solution to that varmint rooster getting into the garden. He's the low man on the totem pole, and the others chase him all the time. So he hops the fence to get away from them.
However, he cannot keep eating all my stuff! So today I went out with the BB gun and pegged him in the rump. He came about 4 ft off the ground, squawking and flapping. My BB gun is not very powerful, and it only pumps up 1 time (it's a Red Rider! And I haven't even put my eye out yet!) I stood a good ways off so I wasn't too close. It put a good sting on him but didn't damage him. He sure enough got his butt out of that garden!
I plan to peg him with it every time he goes in, until he figures out that going there hurts.

Oh yeah, he has plenty of places to go to get away from the other two roosters; he just likes the garden. I think he's getting a taste for young cucumbers and watermelons. I'm about to cure him of that!

He'll wait till you aren't looking and sneak in. Rooster burger is the only cure.

You don't think he'll eventually get scared that something will keep biting him when he goes in there?

I'm a little bit scared to eat him. He does this thing with his head sometimes like he's having a seizure. We wonder if he has brain damage from the other roosters beating him up so bad. Those other two we had beat him unmercifully.

That won't affect the meat any. I'd go ahead and eat him.

What do you think is wrong with him, Kim? Sometimes he puts his head down and it turns around backwards. He thrashes his neck back and forth until his head finally turns back the right way. I thought it was that limber neck stuff, but when I read about that (being from botulism and all) it didn't seem like he could have it this long without dying. He's been like this for at least 4 months. Other than going into spasms like that every so often, he seems fine.
