Mike went out to check the chickens for any more eggs, then walked over to the garden. As he approached the corner of the fence he heard what sounded like a rattle snake. He carries 6ft wooden staff he made from a tree limb, poked the corner of the fence and it rattled again. So he came in and got his pistol and boots. Yes! he walks around in flip flops. We all went back out there and checked that whole area very carefully, nothing. I do not need to face down a rattle snake while picking beans. Did some checking online and we do have timber rattle snakes in this area of KY. Been here over 20 years and all I've seen is copper heads, black snake, garter snakes and a rat snake.
The place at the end of our street, 2 lots, are totally overgrown. I don't know what's happened to the elderly lady who owns them, haven't seen her since last Jan. Plus, there was a big farm behind that land that was sold off to a church and they've moved dirt around so I figure wild life will be on the move.

I hope you find it in the yard and kill it before you find it cuddled up with your chickens.

Hopefully it decided to move on. We get those and pygmy rattlers here. Those don't have buttons to rattle.

The pygmy rattlers are supposed to be in Land between the Lakes which is 30 miles to the west of us. Says they like woods. Hmmm. The woods are right up against the back and west side of my garden. I told Mike that this fall and winter when growth dies back and all the nasties go dormant we need to do some serious cleaning out and cutting back. This place has gotten too wild.
