Max got out the other day and ended up down the street at the neighbor's who has a great pyr in heat. He'd need a step ladder to get to her so obviously he isn't going to father any of her puppies. We tried several times to catch him with no luck. Last night he came whining to the door and limped into the house. Yup, been in a dog fight and got bit on his front leg. So I patched him up and he's been staying in. Well, Melanie just called me. There's a lady up around the other side of our street who has a bull terrier who isn't spayed. The dog is chained to a tree all the time. So this lady finds out from another neighbor who Max belonged to? went to Davey's work and told him that his dog got her dog pregnant last week. OK, Max lives at our house. How do they know he's Davey's dog and not ours? Nobody came to our door telling us about it. My opinion, yeah, Max shouldn't have been out running and we do try to keep him in, but he will bowl a person over to get out that door. I personally think that if you have a female dog in heat and you tie it under a tree you should expect puppies. It's pretty stupid not to. So I probably won't get much sleep tonight. I just finished a piece of cake with extra chocolate icing.

I'd deny any puppies unless you want a vet bill. Tell her to prove they are his first. If she's dumb enough to leave a bitch outside then only God knows who be dat baby daddy!

That's exactly how I think about it. It's like putting out a neon sign saying 'come get me boys!'

Don't be so sure he won't father any of the pyr's pups. I saw a chihuahua breeding a collie once. When they're in heat, they will do whatever is necessary to get laid.
That said, I agree it's the bitch's owners fault if she ends up pregnant.

I've seen a long legged dog in heat lay down so a Dachshund could breed her. Puppies had short legs.

Well, I'll tell ya, if he fathers any pyr pups those are going to be some interesting herding dogs. Max is half beagle and half border collie. He has all the markings of the border collie, but shorter hair like the beagle and sounds like a hound when he barks. But he's got the energy and moves of a border collie. That's why we have a hard time catching him if he gets out. He's 5 years old and still has the energy of a pup. Not a big dog, he weighs about 35 pounds. He does have that herding instinct, tries to herd the cats and they don't go for that, so he gathers objects such as pet food cans, fire wood,....
