For the past 22 years, I've been faking fried apples. Dan, apparently, grew up eating them, but I'd never heard of them until I met him. I've tried to make them, but not knowing what they are makes it hard. He always eats mine and says they're good, but I make them differently every time, so I think he's faking it, too.
I've tried Luck's fried apples and they're disgusting. I'm hoping that's not what he has in mind. I've tried frying them in butter, stewing them, adding different kinds of sugar, adding various spices, and even adding a dash of vanilla.
Can anyone tell me how they're supposed to be made?

Fried Apples 8 medium Granny Smith apples, chopped 1/4 cup butter 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg Preparation:
Melt butter in a heavy skillet over medium-low heat. Add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sauté 15 to 20 minutes, or until apples are tender. Serve as a side dish for pork or with breakfast. Serves 6.

I don't think there is any "one way" to fix fried apples. Kind of like saying how do you make fried potatoes. I do something similar to Sheila. I slice tart apples into thick slices, and heat them on a medium heat in butter for a few minutes, then add a sprinkling of brown sugar, and a sprinkling of cinnamon and cook them for another few minutes. They should be tender but not mushy and be coated with butter and brown sugar and cinnamon. I have heard of folks frying rings in cinnamon/butter/brown sugar, too. I have also heard of folks dipping the slices or rings into a batter and deep frying them. One time I stewed them in water and red hots candies. I guess whatever way you like them is what is the right way!

I make them like Sheila too with butter and sugar and cinnamon. I add a little bit of brown sugar but thats all. I have added a dollop of heavy cream but thats not real fried apples.

I guess I've been making them right after all! Cool! Thank you, ladies!

Yep. Pretty much the only difference between fried apples and stewed apples is butter.
