DS set his plants on a table and left terrible rings! How do I fix them!?!?

Mix mayonnaise with some wood ash (cigar or cigarette ashes will work, too) and coat the rings with it. Leave it for about half an hour, then buff off. Wash and wax.

Wash and wax. makes you wonder if remedies like that come from experience and intentional trial and error - or - if some sloppy person who seldom wipes a table happened to haphazardly notice the curative effect of ashes and mayo all mixed up ?

Well, I can say for sure that substituting cigarette ashes for the wood ash was trial and error because I was the one trying it out!
I'm guessing the mayo and wood ash was probably figured out by someone cleaning up a picnic table after a cookout.
