Something happened to Cole not long ago and I was sure he was blind in his right eye. Watching him through the door the past couple of days we're pretty sure it's both eyes and he's totally blind. Not a good thing for an outside cat. I'm thinking he may have taken a hit to the head. He walks very cautiously and gets to the food and water on the porch. A little bit ago he was meowing at the door, sitting in the snow and ice. So I stepped outside and picked him up. I've petted him before but wasn't sure how he'd react to being picked up. I'm still in one piece and not shredded. He's been hanging out under the wood stove getting warm. The other cats are not happy and hiss at him, but Max is taking care of him, so the cats leave him alone. Not sure at this point if he will stay in or go back outside. I'd love to keep him in if the other cats will eventually accept him because I know that the first time a stray dog goes after him he will be killed.

Poor kitty. I have 2 goats in the bathroom again. Too cold for little Georgette outside so her buddy, Gloria is keeping her company.

Yes, they can learn their area. He's kind of wobbly, but I think the lack of sight is affecting his equalibrium. He walks very cautious. Supposed to be feral, but this morning I picked him up and cuddled him. He didn't fight me and instead started purring.

Susan we had an OLD tomcat that lost sight in both eyes at the same time over a couple months - amazing how quickly he adapted to life indoors and how he did well for a couple of years before the age thing finally prevailed - like with all sightless critters a cat will seldom strike out if you first speak a few words before touching it - it's the "startle" reflex that needs adjusting -

Well, sadly, my little guy died a few days ago. Whoever beat him, and we're pretty sure that's what happened, also hit his lower back. He was having a hard time walking on his hind legs. Saturday afternoon he started having seizures one after another and within a few hours he was comatose. He passed away around 4PM. We're thinking that the hit to the head that took his sight probably had bleeding in his brain. So we've got an animal hater around here, not just cats. My dog, Max, was injured in December when he got loose. I've also had other cats disappear in the past few months. Heaven help that person if I ever catch them in the act of hurting an animal. I will not be a very nice Christian at that point. Susan

Some people are so sick. I'm sorry for your loss, Susan. At least he was loved and cared for in his final days.
