So I was making pet food the other day and I have a general procedure that I use. I fill an 8C measuring bowl to 6C and then drain the veggies into the bowl to top it off. I poured the first can in and looked. It read 7C. I poured the second can in and it read 7.5C??? I thought maybe I looked at the can wrong and that they weren't both mixed veggies so I looked again. Yep, both mixed. The difference was that the first can was Aldi (15oz) and the second can was Del Monte (14.5oz). Since my trusty kitchen scale wasn't so trusty I had to go online and double check the weight of water. 1/2C of water weighs 4oz. That means that when buying Aldi veggies you are getting 3.5oz fewer veggies than "name brand"!! Since I can often find name brand on sale for the Aldi price, I think I'm just going to skip Aldi's from now on. Even at $1 a can, Del Monte is actually a bit cheaper.

well, if the scale won't work, you could actually count individual number of pieces of each variety ? but then you'd need to consider different sizes - aahhh, forget it -

M, I never thought about that when comparing brands. I just always looked at color, texture, and flavor. Never dawned on me that some brands might be using more water!

Joan, I started counting but then lost track...
Me either Val. It really honks me off. I liked shopping at Aldi's for two reasons. 1~ The "supposed" price and two it is very easy to buy the quantities that I like to buy in. I just grab a flat of each thing I want and go. Not that easy in a "regular" store.
