Hi Everyone, I am so excited to have joined this message board. I love to cook and bake and am always looking for good recipes to try. I have tried this one recipe on custard and it tasted like scramble eggs. The ingredient called for milk, salt, eggs, vanilla extract, nutmeg for 35 to 40 mins at 350. I'm not sure why they would taste like scrambled eggs. Could it be from cooking the custard to long? Thank you, Crystal Crystal Creative Ideas www.crystalcreativeideas.blogspot.com

Welcome to the forum, Crystal! Are you baking the custard in a bain marie (hot water bath)?

Hello Granny Smith and Michelle: I first off would like to Thank You both for replying to my post. To answer your question, yes, I have baked the custard in a bain marie bath. Im thinking it might have to do with maybe, putting the custard on the bottom shelf of the oven, since I was baking chicken on top. Could that be a possibility? Did it curdle or was the custard smooth?

Custard should taste egg-y, but with a smooth, silky texture. I don't think baking it in the bottom of the oven would hurt anything, but overbaking might. You should bake it just until a knife stuck in halfway between the edge and center comes out clean. Of course, you might have a bum recipe. Here's the one I use~ www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/baked-custard/4571b767-53bf-4b46-8008-fa89f81a7bb1
