I was thinking about making little hamburger buns for sliders, and dreading rolling out all those little balls, when I started to wonder what would happen if I just patted the dough into a cookie sheet and cut it, then let it rise.
Have you ever done that?
I'm going to try it. I'll let you know what happens.

I don't see why it wouldn't work

so.... did it work?
You know, they cut donuts and they are a yeast dough.

It DID work, but I wasn't quite patient enough. I cut the dough before I let it rise. After it was baked, I cut through it again. The problem was that I got such a late start they didn't have time to cool enough before I split them and some of them cut kind of rough. They didn't actually fall apart, even with the burgers in them, but they weren't pretty.
I'll definitely do this again, but I'll do it earlier in the day so they can cool before I split them.

Last time I made buns they came out kind of crusty, and the guys didn't like them. Brent's a whimp when it comes to bread anyway. He won't even eat the crusts off of squishy white store bread because he says they're too hard. I'd hate to see the guy with a Dorito!

These hamburger buns are soft. Dan doesn't like them if they're firm (I do, though) so I make this recipe. I think the ones I made yesterday turned out even softer than usual - probably because the edges couldn't brown.
The weird thing is, he loves Doritos and I can't stand them because they're too hard.

Is that soft bun recipe hereabouts somewhere? I think I might try them again. I hate feeding us anything with HFCS in it, and it's really hard to find bread without it these days.
