I picked a very small spaghetti squash today. It was no bigger than my hand, but it was dark yellow and the skin was tough (it didn't yield to my thumbnail) When I picked it up, the whole bottom was squishy. I cut it open and there was a layer of rotten squash under the skin on half of it that had liquified. The seedy center was suspect, too. I put the whole thing in the chickens' bucket. I guess I'll have to start putting the squash up on flat rocks or little piles of hay so they're not laying on wet ground. I think I remember doing that before, but I haven't grown them in several years, so I forgot I needed to.

I wish you better luck on your next round! I remember my Dad going thru that with his sugar baby watermelons and he learned real fast! We here in Maine are getting rain every 2nd to 3rd day! Because we were busy starting home business we had to give up our gardening time. Now were getting back into it.I had wanted a greenhouse for at least 15 yrs,and with the way things are in the world,I decided it had to be this summer. Our Hoophouse is now built-took us 1 month, cost was just a little over $600.Its 10x12. No regrets for sure! My one little row of cukes outside have flowers but are stunted greatly, and leaves are yellowing-no doubt from all the rain. The Hoophouse cukes so far are doing wonderful, good and lush green and just starting to grab onto the trellis. I did get 9 tomatoes this year, they were all ok but thats all I got from 2 plants,I'm happy with that considering we're just getting back into it.

We're having another rainy summer this year. I never even got most of my beds planted. The ones I did get in are overrun with weeds, but the plants are growing. All I planted was 2 kinds of squash and nasturtiums. The squash are just starting to get babies. I've picked a handful of nasturtiums to add to salad.
The old chicken run is overrun with field corn and several different kinds of squash. They're doing so much better than my garden! There ae several pumpkins that are almost ready to pick. There might be more, but everything is so overgrown I can't get to it. It's like living in a jungle.
On the bright side, the weeds are doing very well. It looks like I'm going to have a bumper crop of sumac and elderberry. The honeysuckle is getting ripe again. I picked a bunch of it earlier in the year and made infused bourbon with it.
