Apple Candy contributed by carla
Okay, so it's really just dried, sliced apples.
We prefer to use Golden Delicious or Jonagolds. We use a hand-crank apple peeler/slicer/corer to slice the apples. As soon as you slice one, put them immediately into a bowl of water with lemon juice. I use about 2 c. water with 2 T. lemon juice. It's not exact. After the slices have soaked, drain them well on paper towels. Put them on the dehydrator trays and then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
I don't know how long they will store because we eat them just as fast as we make them. Although, one year when I had access to a lot of apples, we did store some for over a year and they tasted great.
We snack on these as is. Also, when I make oatmeal for the kids, I tear slices into pieces and put on top and just reconstitute them when I add the boiling water to the oatmeal. Add a little cinnamon and the kids claim it's delicious.
