Two weeks ago, I refused to buy yellow onions because they were $3.49 for a 3 pound bag. Last week they were $3.99! I didn't buy them for that, either (as you might imagine) I've been using my dehydrated onions until the onions I planted get bigger.
I usually use a lot of onions, probably 3 pounds a week, so I've had to make quite a few adjustments in the way I cook.
Is anyone else seeing this price increase? What are you doing for onions?

Its been that way for a while here. I got the man at the mkt to sell me 20lbs for 10.00. They are very good and are goin to hold for a little while. I've been backing away from how much I use. Only half as much as usual. We are goin to Sams Friday and I'm goin to see if they have those big containers of dried onions. I still have one but another would be good.

Michelle, I needed some fresh onions yesterday, so I bought Vidalias, since they were on sale. I still think they were too high, $2.50 for 3 lbs, but that's less than the yellow onions. These are the smallest Vidalias I've ever seen!

I use onion powder a lot, because Dave can't see it in the food. That has saved me from buying onions much.

I was going to buy another bag of Vidalias today, but they were slap out of them! I'm glad my onions are growing. I should probably put in another few pounds of them while I can still get the sets.

I used to buy the onions in the three pound bag for just over $2. DH grabbed me some yesterday and they were $4.69. Then he tells me the produce guy was going to mark down the bulk ones to .29. Why did he buy the big bag? Well.... I said I needed them. Guys are so funny sometimes.

Christy, it might not be as bad as it seems. I bought some bags of onions that had been marked down to $1 a few weeks ago. I ended up throwing out more than half of them because they were rotten. The outside looked fine, but underneath the first thick layer, the rest of the onion was nothing but brownish mush.

I hate it when I get those. Mushy brown turns my tummy.

I know! It's gross, especially when you get it all over your hands and cutting board.

I bought 2 of the 6 gallon buckets from Walton's in 07. We haven't quite finished the first bucket. I use a good bit when I cook, but with just the two of us, we really don't eat that much. The dried are so convenient. I really hate having to cut up onions.
