I went shopping with Tamie yesterday. While she shopped in a childrens store I wandered around with Brody in the stroller. There was one of those middle of the mall shops that sold t-shirts and tote bags made out of raggy quilt squares. Thats a neat idea because it is automatically lined. I'm goin to try to make one. The rest of the story is that the lady is selling them like hotcakes and the blamed things cost $30. I know at the most there isnt more than $5 worth of material in them. Its probably the least labor intensive thing you can make.

That would work perfectly for my dresses, since they're, basically, all rectangles. Boy, that would be nice in the winter! I have loads of receiving blankets I could use for the backing. (I get them for 10 cents apiece, so I buy all I can find)
Come to think of it, I also have a ton of thermal baby blankets. Those would make a toasty liner, too.

Great Minds indeed. I was thinking about a skirt out of the squares. The tote bags dont have the batting between the layers and I think with flannel or anyother warm fabric it would be toasty without it. Gayle with all the denim scraps we have put up we could make a couple of dresses. They'd probably last a long long time.

You know what else? For over a year, I've been begging Dan to make me a series of metal squares, 2", 4", 6", 8", and 10", that I could use for templates. Two weeks ago, he finally made them. Those are going to make this so much easier! I can just lay them on the fabric and cut around them with the rotary cutter.
I wash and store every pair of jeans, jacket, skirt, or jumper that can't be worn or passed down. I can always get a few squares out of them. I have 3 blue bins full right now and more piled on top of the bins.
Wouldn't it be funny to use the back pockets for the squares on the front of a dress? It would be nice not to have to make pockets.

I have a lot of the tops of bib overalls. You could make a real cute jumper with a raggy skirt and overall front. You know whats funny. We could probably sell the dumb things for a small fortune in a mall. That same stall had a section of little girl dresses. Just two pieces cut straight across with a little scoop for the arm hole. It was hemmed all around and across the top. They ran matching grosgrain ribbon thru the top to tie on the shoulders. Like those pillowcase dresses. They were getting $30 for those.

Holy cow! You could make one of those in less than an hour! That ain't bad pay. I know of a place that sells clothes on consignment. I should go talk to them.

Thats what I was thinking. Even sheets. I have some primary color sheets I found in a yd sale once. They would make cute dresses with a flower or checked border. The possibilities are endless. With a mkt to sell them and suckers to buy them you could really make some cash.

Toward fall, when people are trying to keep their homes warm, but not raise the bills too much, I think window quilts might sell. If you made them a common panel size (24"x84") they could be adapted to most any window by the person who buys them. When you're covering to keep wind and cold out, floor length is better and they could buy as many panels as they need for the width. I suppose you could make custom curtains, too, but that would be more work on you and it couldn't be done ahead in your spare time.

I'm goin to practice and make one for Michaels window. That is such a good idea. Besides the practical good I just love the way they look.
