This is the ketchup recipe I use. I don't remember where it came from originally - maybe Hillbilly Housewife. Once you try this, you'll wonder why you ever bought ketchup. It's so rich and delicious.
Ketchup
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste 1/2 cup simple syrup (I use corn syrup) 1/2 cup vinegar 1/4 cup water 1 tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon salt dash of cloves 1/4 teaspoon onion powder 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk until smooth. When mixture comes to a boil, reduce heat and slimmer for 20 minutes, stirring often. Remove pan from heat and cover until cool.
Makes about 1 1/2 cups.

Valerie, now I got you spoiled, too.
I tried some storebought ketchup last week, after eating this for the past year. It tasted 'thin', for lack of a better description. I went back to homemade (I'm spoiled, too)

Ok----are the cloves ground? That's my guess, but I want to make sure.

I'm real lazy, I mix tomato paste, vinegar, sugar and water till it is as thick as I like and call it good.

Since the first time I made this, nothing else would do. I'm making another batch right now.
