This recipe comes from my best friend, Jeannette.
Mrs. Wells' Stack Cake
3/4 cup butter 1 cup sugar (more if you want) 2 eggs 1 t. vanilla dash nutmeg, optional about 3 cups self-rising flour Filling (recipe follows)
Mix butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in nutmeg and enough flour to make a dough.
Pat 1/3 of the dough into each of 3 (9" or 10" round layer pans. Bake at 350 till done. Cool.
Place one layer on plate. Top with filling. Put on second layer and top with more filling. Put on third layer and top with more filling. Frost sides with filling, too, if you want.
Filling
Fresh or dried apples, cooked till thick OR applesauce (add some cinnamon, if desired)
