This cake has been one of our regulars ever since Sheila posted the recipe. I've always made it with cherry pie filling, but cherry pie filling has gotten expensive lately, so I tried making it with apple pie filling tonight (less than half the price of cherry). I added a handful of brown sugar to the fruit because there wasn't as much gel in the apples as there is in cherries. It was delicious! We like it better than cherry.

My mom puts pecans in hers, too. She's made with every kind of pie filling you can get. Peach is fantastic. This is usually what my brother John wants for his birthday.

I'll bet the peach one would be good with a spice cake mix, too. I usually just keep vanilla and angel food cake mixes, but I think I'll start keeping spice, too.

Apple with butter pecan would be good. Blueberry and lemon is good too.
