1 1/2 cups water 1 1/2 sugar 3 1/2 teaspoons cornstrach 1/2 teaspoon salt 4 egg whites 1 tespoons vanilla Baked pie shell ( baked) 1 cup heavy cream 1 square semi sweet Chocate shaved
In meduim saucepan, combine water , sugar, cornstarch and salt, blending well . cook over moderate heat stirring constantly . until mixture comes to a full boil and is very thick. Cool. in large bowl , beat egg whites until stifff and glossy , but not dry. Gradually beat cornstarch mixture into egg whites, continuing to beat (medium speed with hand mixer ) for 20 minutes. blend in vanilla . Spoon into pie shell . Refrigerater for at least 6 hours Garnish with whipped cream and sprinkle with shaved chocolate

I'll bet that would be good with toffee bits, instead of shaved chocolate, too.
