1 cup sugar 1/2 cup shortening 3 mashed bananas Pinch of salt 1/2 cup sour milk (1 1/2 teaspoons of white vinegar in a measuring cup and fill with milk up to the 1/2 cup mark. Let stand for 5 minutes or more.) 1 Tablespoon Baking Soda 2 cups flour 1 cup chopped fine nuts
Cream shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add mashed bananas. Sift salt, Baking Soda, and flour together. Add alternately with sour milk. Stir in nuts. Pour into greased loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until tested done when toothpick comes out clean.

it my SILs Grandmother recipe she gave to me so simple and good . I made up wow what flavor.

When I was a pre-teen, there was a lady in our neighborhood, Mrs. Brown, who must have felt sorry for all us girls. So, once a year, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, she'd invite all of us to her house for a baking party. That banana bread was one of the things she taught us to make.
The only other thing I remember is Candy Cane Cookies (decorated with crushed candy canes)
