I was short on butter, but wanted to make grilled cheese sandwiches tonight, so I used mayonnaise instead. It worked great! The sandwiches were nice and crispy and less greasy than when I use butter. The mayonnaise taste was pleasant and not overwhelming. I'm switching to mayo everytime I make grilled cheese.

Hey, lots easier to spread too! Thanks for the tip!

I saw it on Paula Deen's show. It kind of sounded gross, but it was really good. I didn't miss the buttery taste at all. It lets the cheese flavor come through more.

<confession> I often am out of soft butter when I want to grill a sandwich...so I will put it on the pan, oil the pan, spray the pan with pam if I have it...<cough> I will spray the SANDWICH with pam. That works, too.

Girl, when you want a grilled cheese sandwich, you don't let anything stand in your way!
