Fried Pies
Thanks to my dear friend, Peggy, for the recipe for the dough. ;D
8 cups all purpose flour 2 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup sugar 2 cups crisco 4 eggs 2 cups water 2/3 cups milk
Cut crisco into the dry ingredients. Beat the eggs slightly and add to flour with the water and milk. You may have to add some flour to make a slightly moist dough. Roll out and cut in 5" circles. Put 2-3 Tbsp. of filling on one side. (I just use jam, but cooked fruit is good, too) Fold over, moisten edges with water, and pinch to seal. This dough can be gathered up and rolled out several times without getting tough.
Deep fry or bake until brown.
Once they are fried, if you'd like, you can drizzle with a glaze made of powdered sugar, a little vanilla, and a bit of milk to thin.
