Original Toll House Cookies
Just like Mom used to make.
1 cup soft butter (or margarine) or shortening (or 1/2 and 1/2) 3/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup brown sugar 1 t. vanilla 1/2 t. water 2 eggs 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1 t. salt 1 t. baking soda 1 (12 oz) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and water until creamy. Beat in eggs, mixing well.
Add flour, salt, and baking soda, blending well. Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop by teaspoonful onto lightly greased cookie sheets, about 2" apart. Bake at 375, 10 - 12 minutes, or until lightly browned at edges and center is set.
Remove immediately to cooling rack.
Makes about 4 1/2 dozen cookies.
Variation: For a pan cookie, spread dough evenly in a greased jelly roll pan. Bake at 350, approximately 20 minutes, or until set and lightly browned. Cool in pan, then cut into 2" squares.
