Maple-Flavored Syrup
2 cups sugar 1 cup water 2 T. corn syrup, molasses, or sorghum 1 T. maple flavoring
Mix sugar, water, and syrup in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook about 5 minutes. Stir in maple flavoring. Serve hot or at room temperature.
Refrigerate leftovers.

is there a substitute for maple flavoring? Something that tastes almost like maple? We do have maple syrup, but it is expensive and I would love to make my own pancake syrup. I just haven't found a suitable substitute for maple syrup or maply flavoring

Doris, I've made pancake syrup by caramelizing a cup of sugar, then adding a cup of hot water (stir until most of the caramelized sugar is dissolved), then adding another cup of sugar and a heavy pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook about 5 minutes, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Or you could make your own maple extract~ grandmaw.proboards.com/thread/9367/homemade-maple-extract
