I've tried many different beans and rice recipes over the years, but I think I need some new ideas. How do you all fix beans and rice (or is it rice and beans?)? I have a ton of rice to use up and a ton of dry beans. Asking for some new ways to try.............

My husband is from Hawaii, and in his family they eat just about everything on rice. If you make franks and beans/beanie weenie/whatever you call it at your home, try that over rice and see if you like it. I would have never thought of it on my own, but it is hearty, filling and tasty. Hope that helps.

We just cook beans with salt & pepper and an onion, maybe with some pork for seasoning, and then put them on the rice with a good bit of the juice.

I cook the beans and rice as usual (separately), then fry up some smoked sausage, Polish sausage, Italian sausage, or bulk breakfast sausage (hot), garlic, and onion slivers, stir them into the beans, let that simmer for a little while, and serve it over rice. Sometimes I add cooked crumbled bacon, too. We like it spicy. If it isn't spicy enough, I stir in some hot sauce or pepper vinegar (vinegar that has hot peppers infused into it for at least 6 weeks)

I like mine spicy, too, but Dave doesn't, so I just add some Texas Pete to mine on the plate. You want something absolutely scrumptious, lay 8 or 10 raw okras on top of that pot of beans when they start cooking.

I'd add the okra if I was trying to lose weight because boiled okra would sure spoil my appetite!

I don't know about the okra either, but thanks for a few ideas. I hadn't thought about Polish sausage and onions with the beans and rice but that sounds good!

Gayle, you stole my post. Thats how we love them. Just like Gayle fixes them. I've been able to find turkey kielbasa and its ok but I probably need to make some so I can jazz it up better than the storebought stuff.
