I hope this is the right place to post this. I should start by saying we are not really drinkers, but we like making stuff. I have made a few kinds of wine, but in small batches - I've used 1 gallon glass 'cider jugs' to make it. I have never had a 5 gal. glass carboy, but then again, that would be an awful lot of wine...for us.
Hubby wants to try making beer at home. Again, we are not big drinkers, but have managed to save some bottles. I have a capper and bottle caps. All the recipes we have seem to be geared to a 5 gallon carboy. I'm wondering if I can reduce the recipe and make less...or if not, I'm wondering if the fermenters made from food grade (plastic) buckets are good enough to make beer. I don't mind getting the big glass carboy if that's what we really need, but I also suspect it won't get used a whole lot, so I'm trying to figure out the best/most economical way to get it all done.
Thanks for any help you can give! -Laura
