I think in some versions of the story they had the affair while he was home.

I did get another fish a couple weeks ago. He/she is a calico fantail that we have named Merlin. I actually got one of those plecos, too, but he only lasted a day and expired. I think the water might have been too cold for him/her. This past week we noticed a bunch of aphids sucking the juice out of the spinach and lettuce and cilantro, and leaving that sticky goo on everything. Did some research and found out that DE is safe to use in aquaponics if used in moderation. So today I put some in one of Dave's old socks and used that to dust everything. Hopefully that will take care of that problem! The fish didn't seem to mind. Actually I doubt that very much even made it down to them.

Finally got some worms for the garden a week or so ago. The plants are really perking up since then! The tomato is huge. Had to get a piece of lattice to go behind the grow bed to tie it too. No blooms yet, but I put a better light out there, so hopefully they'll get enough UVs now to make flowers. Bought some plants to replace some of the ones I planted too early. It got too cold for them and they were stunted. Put in an eggplant, basil, parsley, and a cayenne pepper. The eggplant seems the happiest; it's already gotten two more leaves and is setting a blossom! I put in a few more cuke seeds, too, to replace those little stunted ones I put in too early. They sprouted over the past few days. I'll train them up the lattice, too. Fish are happy, plants are happy, and I'm happy. I put some aquaponic lettuce in my smoothie yesterday and on Dave's sandwich this morning.

Val - Lettuce in a smoothie? ? Hmmm......well I don't know. I thought smoothies were only with fruit, not veggies. As we say up here in Minnesota: "That's different" (translation: no way) Ha!

Patty, we put everything in smoothies, along with fruit, although I usually stick with mild-flavored vegetables. I've made them with lettuce, parsley, celery, carrots, spinach, apples, avocado, oatmeal (uncooked), kiwi, bananas, melons, pineapple, eggs, various juices, various sweeteners, and various dairy products.

Well, coming from a person who can only tolerate certain pure fruit smoothies - like pineapple or cherry - introducing veggies into a smoothie seems to put in a certain "yuck factor". But hey - to each his own.!

For a while, it was the only way I could get a decent breakfast into my kids, so I threw in everything but the kitchen sink. I also put peanut butter, jelly, and chocolate in them.

Mine are a base of spinach & parsley (like half) with fruit added in. I recently discovered that a dash or two of cayenne pepper really makes it delish! Usually I have the greens, a kiwi, a banana, and some frozen berries and/or melon and some thin yogurt. Enough water to come to the line and smooth it out. That's my breakfast!

Eating??? Who has time for that?

Why not just eat the fruit and vegetables??? Because it would never happen. Plus, liquifying them supposedly makes them easier to digest and the nutrients easier to absorb.

Took some new pics this morning ... Here's how the grow bed looks now. Some of the plants that got stunted by the cold have been taken out (and the radishes were about done) and replaced with what Becky calls "cheater plants", i.e., plants we did not start from seed. Here are the fish. If you look close you can see all 4. They were a little freaked out because the bubbles stopped so I could get the picture. Fish again: Arthur and Guenivere over to the left, Lancelot in the middle, Merlin over by the pump. Lettuce, basil, and parsley. Cayenne pepper and an eggplant in the back. Pepper (R) and eggplant (L). Bottom of the tomato on the far left. That is the tiny little tomato seedling that I put in back in February! My crazy tomato growing up the lattice Cuke seedlings. Just put those seeds in on Monday

I figured out part of the reason the tomato was so huge and lush was there was an overabundance of nitrogen. Not too much, but just out of balance. Now that we have the worms in there, things are balancing out and settling down. The tomato has tiny little buds and the eggplant has one, too.

well the tomato might be going great guns but there's not enough on the whole passel of fish to make a sandwich - not even a sandwich with the crust cut off -
