I've heard cool weather, I've heard after the last frost. Does anyone grow celery? Is it too late to start the seeds inside this year to plant the end of May when I plant tomatoes and peppers? Should I wait for cooler weather and plant for a fall garden? Susan

I've grown it, but can't really be of assistance. We plant ours in the fall here.

So, how long does it grow in your fall and mild winter weather? It sounds like I need to start the seeds inside about mid summer and plant in the fall. Do they handle a frost ok? We usually get a killing frost here anywhere from the 15th of October until the end of that month. The temps will go up and down and it's very common for us to have windows open and no heat while roasting the Thanksgiving turkey.

Mine did fine in the frost. I did cover them with a sheet of plastic when we had a hard freeze. They made it through the entire winter, which was our coldest on record. Only thing is, I didn't know about blanching them so they were super green and very strong tasting. We got into the teens quite a few times that winter. Probably as long as the ground itself doesn't freeze, they would be fine.
