I downloaded this free e-book from Amazon called "Things mother used to make, A collection of old-time recipes, some almost a hundred years old"
Anyway, this recipe was in it, and it reminded me of some of you all. It's more like jello than jelly you would put with peanut butter. That's why I put it here.
1 small box of gelatin 1 pint of strong coffee 1 cupful of sugar 1 quart of boiling water Flavor with vanilla
Soak the gelatine in cold water for 15 minutes. Stir into the coffee and add sugar, salt and water, then vanilla. Pour into a mould and set away to cool. Serve with sweetened whipped cream.
* I typed it just like it is in the book. I don't know how the gelatin would equate to what we have now, or how much salt that was.

It sounds good, but I think I'd replace some of the water with milk. Of course, I drink my coffee with milk and sugar.

I like that, too, Sheila. Especially, "butter the size of an egg" or "butter the size of a walnut"

OMG, I got to the part about sweeping a room! No wonder people didn't keep much stuff in their rooms in the old days! They took out all the furniture just to sweep!

When I sweep the kitchen, I move out everything except the appliances and table. That's why I hate doing it.
