I have 2 peach trees and the one that was loaded with peaches has brown rot, a fungus. So we've lost all the peaches on it. I goofed when I bought them and accidentally got two different kinds of peach trees, guess now that's a good thing. I went out yesterday with a spray bottle of GSE mixed in water. I really sprayed the other tree as best as I could, then it poured rain during the night. All of this rain has made it worse. I've had a fungus pop up in a crack of the wood of my front porch. I'm trying not to complain about the rain since we were in a bad drought just a couple of years ago, but we've really had too much. I haven't been out to the garden in a couple of days, but expect I'll be fighting powdery mildew with how wet it's been. Susan

Here too, y'all! All my tomato plants have fungus and are dying... We've been getting rain and cooler than normal temps (by 20 degrees) all summer. The crops that usually thrive in the heat don't like it... My pepper plants, on the other hand, are huge and healthy!! I'm pretty sure the sweet potatoes will rot in the ground if it continues to be this wet. Sure wishing I had planted corn this year!

Ugh, didn't even think about the sweet potatoes. Most of what's in the garden seems to be doing ok, but I haven't been out there for a few days. Susan

Susan it's amazing what a few days can do - in the cooler weather some of my weeds are absolutely flourishing - i'll soon be weeding with a machete - we have the brown rot this year too - i've been able to salvage a good percentage by trimming and then canning but it is disappointing - like i say every year, next year i'll get serious about a spraying program -

Well, y'all just made me feel immensely better! I thought it was just my own failings as a gardener! All my tomatoes have turned into brown fuzz balls before they had a chance to ripen. I did get some cucumbers before the chickens discovered them. Even the squash and zucchini rot before they can bloom. The blossoms just get covered with black fuzz and fall off. What kind of gardener can't grow zucchini??!! The only thing I've got that's doing great is okra, which is doing better than any I've ever grown! I wish I had planted lots more of it!
I tell ya, I'm about done with heirloom seeds -- I'm going with disease-resistant hybrids from here out if I can. And, I will never again fuss about drought when it comes to the garden. I'd rather haul hoses around every day than lose everything to this perpetual wetness.
