Has any one ever cooked/canned/or dried nopales?

Use them like green beans, though some of the canned have jalapenos in them.

I've only used the canned. My neighbors use the fresh. You have to peel them. I've never done that.

I have. But only fresh. I diced it and sauteed it in olive oil. I treated it like bell pepper, although it doesn't taste like bell pepper.

I've never cooked with them, although I have had them pickled. I didn't care for them because they were kind of slimy.

Seems like one could fry fresh small (spineless) pads like okra.
Also would be interesting to dehydrate the small pads.
In a TEOTWAWKI scenario prickly pear is growing to be very important.
