Did you know you could caramelize confectioners' sugar? I didn't until I saw it on tv a couple of days ago. I don't remember what show it was on or the exact recipe, so I made up my own. It turned out great!
I had some heavy cream, so I used it, but, because cream is so expensive, I'm going to try making this with evaporated milk. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Coffee Caramel Sauce
1 cup confectioners' sugar (aka: 10X or powdered sugar) 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter (I used salted) 1 cup heavy cream 1 t. instant coffee
Place confectioners' sugar in heavy saucepan or skillet. Place over medium heat and stir occasionally until melted (I used a whisk). Remove from heat and whisk in butter, then cream until blended. Whisk in instant coffee and return to heat. Bring just to a boil and remove from heat again. Cool, pour into a jar and store in refrigerator.
Makes about 1 1/2 cups.
