Have y'all seen all those articles online about how easy it is to grow a Meyer lemon tree from seeds? I saw them last year (of course after the Meyer lemons were out of the store). Anyway, I got a bag of lemons last night! I want to start a few lemon trees, but I got thinking about this last night. I read that the Meyer lemon is a cross between a regular lemon and a mandarin orange. Since it is crossbred, even if the lemon seeds sprout and grow a tree, do you think it would bear Meyer lemons, or would it bear just plain lemons? Plain lemons is fine with me, too, actually. Even the sour root, not grafted lemons are good for juicing and such.

I've read that they grow true from seed. I also read that you have to keep the seeds moist between lemon and moist dirt. The article said to take them straight out of the lemon and put them in your mouth and leave them there until you're ready to plant each seed. I've always been told not to put seeds in your mouth if you were going to plant them because the enzymes in your spit would make them not grow, but I guess Meyer lemons are different - maybe all lemons, for all I know.

OK, so maybe we could skip the mouth part, just to be on the safe side, and have the moist dirty ready and waiting to receive the seeds as soon as we cut the lemon! Like doing a seed transplant.

I got disgusted when I read that it takes 15 years for the tree grown from seed to start bearing! I kind of forgot to water them at that point and they never did sprout. Fifteen years!!!

Holy cow! Mine never did come up so I put the container out on the porch. If they're going to take 15 years, I don't care if they grow or not now. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat!
