I gotta tell y'all about my comfrey. Last fall, Gayle sent me three chunks of roots. By time they got here the leaves were wilty, but they sprouted new ones in days. I planted them in my lasagna bed, just until spring and I decided on a permanent location.
Well, chickens really do love the stuff! That little naughty that kept getting in my garden chewed them right down to the roots. Then she dug and strewed and the roots got lost, too. I did salvage one, but didn't know where to put it, and I think it might have died.
I planted it and I'm waiting to see if there was any life left in it.
Anyway, I hauled a bunch of what was the lasagna garden to the new raised bed to fill it up. Today I was out and there was a weird looking sprout coming up where I didn't plant anything. I pulled on it and it just kept on coming! And at the bottom, what did I find? A 3" chunk of comfrey root! Yay!!! I put it back in the ground and hope it will keep on growing now that I've messed with it!

If it doesn't, let me know and I'll send you some more. I still have it all over the yard.

Hey, I just found another little green shoot coming up in another location. Sure enough, there was about a 1" stick of root on this one! I tell ya, this stuff is amazing! I might wind up with a jillion, depending on how bad that little naughty broke them up! Gayle, I think at this rate, I'll be OK, but if not, I'll sure let you know. Thanks so much! I know what they look like now when they come up, so any more I see, I'm going to take up very carefully and move to a safe spot.

OMG Y'all! That shoot I thought I might have messed up by pulling it out? It's doing fine and getting leaves. Besides the other one I found yesterday, there are two more sprouting up today! At this rate, I might wind up with comfrey all over the yard! LOL!!! Good thing the chickens like to eat it!

That makes me think that maybe putting some around the chicken and rabbit areas might be good. (if I don't kill it all lol)
