Valerie, I steamed my eggs this morning and I am so amazed at the results. I have an electric steamer/rice cooker. Since they were starting cold I steamed them for 30 minutes resulting in perfectly "boiled" eggs. It sure makes it easy. I wasnt using fresh eggs but the ones I have, peeled without a problem. I'll be doing that from now on. Boiled is my favorite way to eat an egg but I dont usually take the time to do it. I just read this post and smiled. This much excitement over a boiled egg is laughable.

LOL, Peggy, I know what you mean! We get so excited over the niftiest things! I'll be steaming mine from now on, too. It's faster, too, since you don't have to wait as long for a big pot of water to boil. I took mine right out of the fridge and just rinsed the dust off and they were perfect after 20 minutes.

Its sure the way I'm goin to do them. The electric steamer is nice because I can set it and leave it. I like that.

I did notice that the egg I peeled right away last night was a lot easier to peel than the ones I put in the fridge and peeled today.

I dont have fresh eggs so I dont know about that. The store ones that I boiled peeled perfectly. I used them all up though in potato salad yesterday. Now I'm out of eggs. When the preacher and his wife get back from Germany I'll start having fresh eggs again and it would be good if they would peel nice. Nothing I do makes them peel right. I reckon we'll see.

I meant this one Michelle :-)
I just let them sit on the counter for 15 minutes or so, so they weren't so cold, stuck them in the steamer and left them in for 30 minutes as indicated in meemo's post.

It was on my Facebook page. Valerie tried it first so I figured it was a good idea. I think she did hers for 20 min. I did 30 because it takes a few min. To start steaming. It sure works

I did another dozen yesterday. Every one of them came out perfectly, not even a nick!
I don't plan on using this batch for anything special. Dan loves having a bowl of peeled hardboiled eggs in the fridge. They're turning into his and Ben's favorite snack. They're a lot healthier than the junk they've been snacking on!

I've been using storebought eggs for steaming, but tried it with VERY fresh eggs yesterday - some that were laid just the day before. While they did not come out perfect, most had small nicks and one had a medium size hunk ripped off, they were MUCH easier to peel than any other fresh eggs I've ever tried. Only one was bad enough that I couldn't use it for deviled eggs (so I ate it) I don't know if it had anything to do with it, but the torn one was the first one I peeled and it was still blazing hot. The rest had cooled a bit.
As much as I like this method of cooking eggs, I think Dan likes it even more. He loves it that he can just open the refrigerator and get a couple of eggs to snack on. I like that they're so much healthier than the junk he was eating (chips mostly)

Awesome!!! I like it, too. Dot's and Alice's eggs are still kind of hard to peel, but way easier than with regular boiling. For some reason, their membrane is like welded to the white! I can still get their eggs to peel most of the way without taking white with it, using the steaming. I kind of like having my eggs already peeled in the fridge, too. They're one of my favorite snacks, too.
