... to get my chickens! I don't plan on bothering them tonight, once they're in the coop. I'll look at them in the morning when I feed them.

you send them out at night to "get your chickens" and you don't even go along to be a lookout ? what kind of a team effort is that ?

It's snowing! Surely you don't expect me to get my little tootsies cold, do you? I'm a delicate flower. Besides, somebody has to stay home in case they get caught and need bail money.

They're looking good. She gave me some really nice chickens. Two of them used to be mine (I gave them to her before the tornado) I didn't let them out of the coop because I want them to stay inside a few days and learn that it's home. I fed and watered them and gave them some bedding (I forgot to give them bedding last night)
When I opened the door I thought I'd have to fight them to keep them from getting out. I took Tim to help me, but it wasn't necessary. They all gathered in the back corner and just looked at me, so I talked to them a little while I was putting all the stuff in. I think we're going to get along just fine.
No eggs yet, but I'm sure they'll go back to laying after they settle in.

I'm so glad for you. I really, really am but alas I'm green with envy. I've come really close a couple of times since we've been here to get some but at this point its better I didnt. The only way I can take care of Paul and Michael without making myself sick is to rest when they do. Makes my free time to do anything outside very limited. I hope you start getting eggs real soon. I'm still trying to find a source for buying them over here.

Glad you got chickens, Gayle! When we got ours from a friend, that's what they did - gather in the corner and just look at us. It took about a week or so, then they started laying. Now I am getting about 15 to 17 a DAY, and I can't find enough people who want eggs. I'm hoping when my neighbors come back from Texas they will want some.

I should be good on eggs till the girls start laying again. The lady that gave me the chickens also gave me 10 dozen eggs. I already had 3 dozen.

I was wondering about that when you said in another post that you had 13 dozen! I knew you didn't have your girls yet and I was wondering why you would have bought that many at once. Unless you were planning a community Easter egg hunt or something.

I often buy 6 dozen eggs, but 13 dozen is a bit much, even for me. I'm down to 9 1/2 dozen now. I loves me some eggs!
