Hooray! A - Dorable! Kim, how can you tell they're girls at that age? Just curious. When our someday comes and we have fence, I gotta get some geese.

Kim, it would be too hard to watch out for more than one. For some reason, geese hate me and always try to bite me.

LOL, you need some gentle ones, Gayle. The ones I have are really gentle unless the buck gets too near a nest, then they goose him good! LOL
Val, the girls are darker than the boys in the down stage. The boys will be almost completely yellow. It is because the color dilution genes are sex linked. Males have two copies and females only one. The XY in mammals is reversed in birds so males have the double copy of anything sex linked and females one copy. In mammals the female gets two copies and the male one.

Kim, the only gentle goose I've ever seen is the one my friend has. It follows me and, I'm sure, would try to bite me if I wasn't paying attention. As soon as it gets about 6 feet away, I turn around, point and laugh at it, and say, "You're nothing but a big ugly duck!". Inexplicably, that makes it turn around and leave every single time.

Gayle, maybe the goose is looking for a handout?

I don't know. It scares me. I just want it to go away. It bites everyone else. I've just been lucky so far.
It probably wouldn't be a good idea to give it food. Then it would expect it all the time and, if I didn't have any, it would bite me.

Gayle, if the goose is biting people it is not gentle! The only times I've been bit is when I insisted on moving a goose off her nest and even then she didn't bite hard.
I stole another gosling this morning. I'll have to watch all the nests frequently. Usually I realize we have goslings when they show up at feeding time.
